The Plush Toy manufacturing sector in India is strong, with numerous qualified and highly capable factories. Plush Toys (also referred to as Soft Toys) factories in India had struggled somewhat historically to be price competitive with factories in China, because certain specialist fabrics used in producing Toys were not made to sufficient quality and quantity levels within India.

Over the past few years as Toy manufacturing in India has grown extensively, and as demand has grown for soft Toy factories in India, we have seen a greater array of fabrics being produced locally. It might seem illogical that a country such as India, with a massive textiles production industry (c. $150 billion usd per annum) should struggle to produce any type of fabrics. The issue though actually lies in the sheer size of the sector in India.

Major fabric producers have little interest in chasing small niche opportunities when the mass market clothing sector is so vast, and offers so much opportunity. What has happened in the last few years though is that some Plush producers in India have persuaded the major fabric manufacturers to invest in producing the fabrics most commonly use din soft Toys and previously only available from China.
